Then, in August, a tour of Highgrove, Barnsley House, and The Laskett, all very special gardens which were a privilege to finally visit, not to mention the Head Gardener at Barnsley House, who is a real character and described himself as “The Billy Elliott of horticulture”.
In September, a Garden Photography Masterclass held at Bury Court, near Farnham, provided an opportunity to apply newly-learned camera techniques to two very different gardens there; one designed by Piet Oudolf and the other by Christopher Bradley-Hole.
In October, Hatfield House hosted ‘A friend, a book and a garden’ The Garden Museum Literary Festival, to celebrate ‘why we garden, not how we garden’ which was attended by some very interesting speakers, the weather was perfect and the house and gardens simply glorious.
Gardening Angel has been busy maintaining gardens and planning new borders, but also taking time out to reboot the batteries and visiting some very beautiful gardens, not just for pleasure, but for inspiration too, including Perch Hill Farm in July, where Sarah Raven held a Feast of Cooking and Growing, with demonstrations and talks and lots of lovely food, not to mention a chance to meet some important guests like Antonio Carluccio.

These are just the garden highlights of 2015 for Gardening Angel. There was also Chelsea Flower Show, Gardeners World NEC, Kingston Lacey, Anglesey Abbey, Savill Garden, Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden, Westonbirt Arboretum, Peter Beales roses and much more. All are well worth a visit and highly recommended. With so many beautiful gardens to see in Britain and across the globe, but not enough time to see them all, be sure to make a list of your favourites and make a
start. If a trip abroad is not possible, then pick up The National Gardens Scheme booklet and visit some local gardens in your home county, and have a wonderful time…
